Rosemarie Bruno received her law degree summa cum laude fromTouro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, where she graduated second in her class. Ms. Bruno holds an M.S.W. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she also received her Bachelor of Arts Degree, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. While at Touro, Ms. Bruno served as Editor-in-Chief of the Touro Law Review. Ms. Bruno also served as an intern for the Honorable Leonard D. Wexler, Senior United States District Court Judge, E.D.N.Y.
Prior to opening her own practice, Ms. Bruno was an Associate at a large commercial and insurance law firm on Long Island in the Litigation & Appeals Practice Group. As a commercial litigator, Ms. Bruno represented clients in a variety of business industries, including the banking, real estate and insurance industries. Ms. Bruno's diverse litigation experience includes handling matters ranging from basic business disputes to complex statutory claims, including claims brought under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), as well as claims brought under various banking and real estate statutes, including the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Truth In Lending Act (TILA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Ms. Bruno also handled insurance coverage litigation involving bad faith and extra contractual claims.
Ms. Bruno has also served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Stan Bernstein, a United States Bankruptcy Court Judge in the Eastern District of New York, where she had the opportunity to work in the field of bankruptcy on a day to day basis during a time of tremendous change that occurred as a result of the new bankruptcy laws that took effect in October 2005.
Ms. Bruno is not only a practicing attorney, but she is also a licensed Social Worker (LMSW). Ms. Bruno was educated and trained as a Social Worker at Stony Brook University's School of Social Welfare. During her time at Stony Brook, Ms. Bruno gained practice experience at an acute care inpatient psychiatric unit on Long Island, providing individual, group and family therapy. Ms. Bruno also assisted the Hon. Nicolette M. Pach, Family Court Judge, Suffolk County, NY, in the management of child abuse and neglect cases, developing effective client service plans for the families that came before the Court. Ms. Bruno has also volunteered as a crisis counselor as at a local suicide and mental health hotline.
Ms. Bruno was trained as a mediator by the New York State Unified Court System's Certified Mediation Training program. Ms. Bruno received additional training in divorce mediation from the Ackerman Institute for the Family in Manhattan. Ms. Bruno has also participated in various other mediation training programs and seminars run by a variety of well-know organizations, such as the American Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association and Stony Brook University's School of Professional Development. Ms. Bruno received Collaborative Law training from the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals in conjuction with The Center for Mediation in Law. Ms. Bruno's diverse training and background in the law and social work have given her a unique orientation and the ability to approach legal issues and dispute resolution from a multidimensional perspective.
Ms. Bruno has also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Touro Law Center's new state of the art campus in Central Islip, New York.
Ms. Bruno is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Lawyers Assistance Committee; Family Law Section), the American Bar Association (Alternative Dispute Resolution Section), The Suffolk County Bar Association (Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee; Bankruptcy & Insolvency Law Committee; Lawyer's Committee on Alcohol & Drug Abuse), the American Bankruptcy Institute, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the New York State Dispute Resolution Association, the Association for Conflict Resolution, the National Association of Social Workers, the Clinical Social Work Association, and the American Counseling Association.
